Are you ready for UK-REACH?
UK REACH has entered into force in the UK from 1st January 2021 and requires UK manufacturers/importers to register their chemical substances to the UK HSE by the designated registration deadlines if the tonnage exceeds 1 TPA.
Additionally, UK-REACH provides comprehensive transitional arrangements meant to assist the many operators likely to be affected by the repeal of EU-REACH in the United Kingdom. For example, UK-based holders of an EU-REACH registration may transfer this registration under UK REACH through a simplified procedure called 'grandfathering'.
Most provisions of UK-REACH have been described as mirroring its EU counterpart. Non-EU manufacturing companies can appoint an Only Representative in the UK to carry out the required UK REACH registrations.
What is an OR under UK REACH?
A GB based OR must be a natural person or legal entity established physically in the UK and equipped with enough knowledge in the practical handling of the substances and information related to them. The GB based OR will be appointed by a mutual agreement with a manufacturer, formulator, or article producer, established outside the UK. ORs will be responsible for complying with the legal requirements for importers under UK REACH. ORs can represent more than one non-UK supplier, but must keep the information related to each of them separately.
