Measures to enhance India-United States (U.S.) bilateral trade in merchandise

Dear Members,

We  have received communication from the Director, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals,   Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India regarding Measures to enhance India-United States (U.S.) bilateral trade in merchandise.

We understand that due to on-going trade war between US and China,    United States has recently increased its import tariffs from 10% to 25% on Chinese imports (5734 tariff lines/products) worth US$ 200 billion w.e.f. 10th  May 2019.

In view of the above, Department of Commerce has carried out detailed analysis to find out the potential commodities/items where India could benefit because of additional tariff imposed by the U.S. on Chinese goods.

Their analysis has shown that out of 5734 tariff lines, India has already been cost competitive in  respect of 1088 tariff lines. Further 104 tariff lines have high potential considering India's current export capacity & the space likely to be vacated by the China, are under domain of DCPC. This opportunity can be availed by Indian Manufacturers of chemicals & petrochemicals to accelerate their exports to USA, as these items are high demand in USA and India is also a net exporter of many tariff lines to other world countries.

In this regard, EPC’s have been requested to take necessary action for increase in export of tariff lines mentioned  in the enclosed file.

Members are therefore requested to kindly go through the enclosed list and  send their inputs on how to boost exports for these Tariff lines,  latest  by 19/06/2019 on e-mail id’s:- ed@chemexcil.gov.in,   deepak.gupta@chemexcil.gov.in & rodelhi@chemexcil.gov.in .

Your timely replies will be appreciated and also  enable us submit comments to DCPC in this regard.

Thanking you,

 Yours Faithfully,

(S. G. Bharadi)
