TO ALL THE MANUFACTURERS OF COSMETICS & TOILETRIES
Dear Members,
We have received communication from APJ-SLG Law Offices, New Delhi that the Uganda National Bureau of Standards has issued TBT Notifications No G/TBT/N/UGA/540 on bathing bars & TBT Notification no G/TBT/N/UGA/541 TBT on antibacterial bathing bars, respectively.
Products covered in the notification are soap and organic surface-active products and preparations, in the form of bars, cakes, moulded pieces or shapes, and paper, wadding, felt and nonwovens, impregnated, coated or covered with soap or detergent.

As per the draft regulation, Antibacterial bathing bar is a product in the form of a bar or a cake containing an antibacterial agent and soap of fatty acids and synthetic surface active agents as active ingredients and which could be used for bathing purposes in soft and hard water. This draft Uganda standard specifies requirements, sampling and test methods for bathing bars. This standard applies to bathing bars supplied in the form of bars/cakes and produced from vegetable or animal oils or fats, fatty acids, or from a blend of all or part of these materials, with or without the addition of rosins or non-soapy surfactants. The standard sets minimum requirements for performance and safety characteristics of bathing bar.
