USA-China Tariff Arbitrage
Meeting on 29/11/2018 to discuss the modalities for enhancing export of chemicals to USA, to fill the gap of Chinese chemicals

Dear Members,
We have received intimation from the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals (DCPC), Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India regarding a meeting on 29/11/2018 under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary (Chemicals) to discuss the modalities for enhancing export of chemicals to USA, to fill the gap of Chinese chemicals.
As you are aware, due to Current bilateral trade relations between US and China, both the countries have imposed high tariffs on each other’s products. The U.S. had recently imposed tariffs on 1333 tariff lines (TLs) at 8-digit on Chinese imports worth US$ 50 billion. This was followed by another round of additional tariffs on Chinese goods worth $ 200 billion (covering 5734 tariff lines), which came into effect from 24th September, 2018. As per the proclamation, the duties on products covered in the 2nd phase will become 25% on 1st January, 2019.
In this regard a list of tariff lines, where India is having high export potential and would be cost competitive in U.S. market has been enclosed.
Indian chemical industry needs to enhance export of these items to U.S. in the short to medium term and may occupy the space of above chemicals, left vacant by Chinese exporters.
Members are therefore requested to go through the enclosed list of items and provide your inputs on enhancing exports of any of the items so that the same could be deliberated during the meeting.
