Dear Sir / Madam,
As we all know, India with a large industrial base mainly of chemicals and petrochemicals generates significant quantities of Toxic and Hazardous waste.
For protection and conservation of environment and sustainable use of natural resources and keeping in view the International commitments of India, the Government of India has taken initiative to integrate the circular economy in several sectoral areas to improve sustainability of industrial operations in the country and also increase their competitiveness.
The key element of a circular economy is the rational management of raw materials including that of metals, energy, chemicals and industrial raw materials as well as water and biomass. The aim of the circular economy is to boost economic growth without increasing the consumption of resources.
In view of the above, the Council has received an email communication from the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals informing that NITI Aayog had constituted a committee for preparation of a comprehensive Action Plan for implementation of Circular Economy in 'Toxic and Hazardous Industrial Waste'.
A core working group was constituted for preparing the comprehensive report and Action Plan in this regard.
The draft final report and proposed action plan prepared by them is attached herewith for your comments/views.
You are requested to send us your comments / views in this regard latest by tomorrow i.e.18th June 2021 on the email id amrita.regulatory@chemexcil.gov.in with copy to pwdd@chemexcil.gov.in for onward communication to the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals.
Thanking You,
Yours faithfully,
