Inter-ministerial meeting for assessment of possible ratification of selected new Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) under the Stockholm Convention – Immediate Response from Industries who are using such chemicals-regarding

Dear Sir/Madam,

We have been informed by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry that a meeting on the above mentioned subject was held at M/o Environment Forest & Climate Change on October 20, 2016 wherein it  was mentioned that India has ratified the initial 12 Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) which were adopted and ratified before the first meeting of Conference of Parties (COPs). Subsequently, the COPs have adopted decision for listing of 14 other POPs. It was emphasized that if these POPs were ratified by India these chemical will be banned for export/import, manufacture and use. List of newly listed 14 POPs and their current status  as given by MoEFCC,  is attached herewith.

The Ministry has requested us to  get inputs from such industries  who  are presently using this 14 chemicals  by today itself and in case they do not get comments by today itself,  they  will presume that  CHEMEXCIL has  concurred the proposal to ban these 14 chemicals and after then it shall not be used in export/import.   In view of the urgency in the matter, you are requested to kindly look into the matter and send us your feedback  immediately by RETURN EMAIL so as to enable us to respond to the Ministry by today itself.  PLEASE TREAT THIS MATTER VERY VERY  URGENT.

Thanking you and awaiting your feedback.
