TO ALL MEMBERS OF COUNCIL

International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) for CIS Trade

Dear Members,

This is  in continuation of our recent mailers  regarding meeting on CIS trade in connection with International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC)  which is a multi-modal transport network that includes rail, road, and water transport from Mumbai in India via Bandar Abbas in Iran to Moscow in Russia.

Kindly note that the Department of Commerce (DoC) is  working on negotiations to  operationalize INSTC  (International North-South Transport Corridor) route along-with Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia.  This route has two modes. First is from Mumbai to Bandar abbas by sea then to bandar azali - baku -  moscow by rail/road. Second mode is from bandar azali to amirabad by rail/route and then from amirabad to astrakhan by sea through caspian sea and from there towards Moscow. The proposed INSTC route shall be 40% shorter and cheaper as compared with the existing route.

On 28/02/2017, Shri Sunil Kumar, IAS, Joint Secretary (EP-CAP), MOC&I had consultations with the  trade and industry in Mumbai  to understand the existing logistics issues concerning exports to CIS and also apprise the  participants about the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and its advantages.

For further information on  International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC),  we draw your attention to the presentation by “Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Association in India”  which is the logistics body for  facilitating the   promotion of INSTC corridor, modalities  and  any other information.  The presentation can be downloaded using link  provided below.

Member- Exporters are requested to take note of  the same and in case of  further  information, may contact  Mr. Shankar Shinde, Vice Chairman- Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Association in India,  shankar.shinde@globalbm.com.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,
