Operationalisation of India–UK CETA – Customs Notification No. 29/2026-Customs dated 14 July 2026

Dear Member,
This is to inform members that the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, has issued Notification No. 29/2026-Customs dated 14th July 2026, giving effect to the customs duty concessions under the India–United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
The notification prescribes the preferential Basic Customs Duty (BCD), Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC), Health Cess, and Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) applicable to eligible goods imported from the United Kingdom into India. The notification also lays down the conditions for availing the preferential tariff treatment under the Agreement.

The notification comes into force with effect from 15th July 2026.

Preferential tariff rates have been notified for eligible tariff lines covered under the India–UK CETA.

Importers claiming preferential tariff benefits must ensure compliance with the Customs (Administration of Rules of Origin under Trade Agreements) Rules, 2020 (CAROTAR, 2020) and satisfy the prescribed Rules of Origin requirements.

The preferential tariff treatment is available only for goods that qualify as originating goods of the United Kingdom in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement and the applicable Rules of Origin.
