Dear Sir/Madam,
Greetings from CHEMEXCIL!
As you are aware that the European Union has come up with Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, preventing carbon leakage by regulating carbon-intensive imports.
The European Commission introduced CBAM in respect of certain sectors which includes chemicals.
Hence, manufacturers / exporters need to be ready with the compliance measures to be taken.
Apart from CBAM, an important topic for Indian Chemical Industry is the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) that are issued Bureau of Indian Standards. The QCO makes it mandatory for manufacturers, importers, and sellers to adhere to specified quality standards for certain Chemicals.
Hence, the Companies who are involved in the production, import, or sale of such chemicals included in the QCOs must Obtain BIS certification for their products, mark their products with the BIS Standard Mark, allow inspections by BIS officials etc.
Non-compliant products can be seized, and penalties can be imposed, including fines, imprisonment, or cancellation of licenses.
In order to throw more light on these important topics and educate our members, CHEMEXCIL along with M/s. Laxmikumaran & Sridharan (L & S) Attorneys is organising physical Seminar on EU CBAM & QCOs on 28th October 2024 from 1400 - 1700 hrs at Mumbai
