Request for feedback on India-Australia FTA

Dear Members,
We have received communication from Shri Ajay Srivastava, Additional DGFT, Department of Commerce requesting feedback on India-Australia FTA.
As informed earlier, India is negotiating an FTA with Australia and working to conclude an Interim Agreement in next few months.
In this context, both the countries are exchanging list of products on which import duties can be eliminated. Australia has indicated to make their import duties zero on 99% tariff lines at the time of entry into force of the agreement. This may translate into increased exports of Indian products to Australia.
India also needs to urgently finalize list of products on which import duties can be eliminated. In this context, DoC has shared the enclosed excel sheet containing a list of important products.
To help you in decision making, the sheet includes the data on India’s MFN customs duties, duties under imports from India’s FTA partners and import with Australia and the world.
Kindly indicate (Yes or No) against a tariff line where tariff may be eliminated. Kindly also give a one- or two-lines reason for your stand if possible. Kindly use Green colour part of attached excel sheet for marking your replies.
Considering the tight timelines, members are therefore requested to revert with response on the attached sheet by 5th January, 2021 on our e-mail id- dg@chemexcil.in, pw@chemexcil.in for submission to DoC.
