Seeking Industry Inputs on Amendments to Annex A of the Stockholm Convention concerning Chlorpyrifos, MCCPs, LC-PFCAs and UV-328
|
Dear Member,
CHEMEXCIL has received a communication regarding the Depositary Notifications issued under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) concerning amendments to Annex A of the Convention.
At its twelfth meeting held in Geneva from 28 April to 9 May 2025, the Conference of the Parties (COP) adopted amendments to Annex A concerning the following chemicals:

Chlorpyrifos – listed in Annex A with specific exemptions for certain identified uses/applications.

Medium-Chain Chlorinated Paraffins (MCCPs) – listed in Annex A with specific exemptions covering certain industrial applications, including specified uses in PVC, wires and cables, adhesives/sealants, coatings, metalworking fluids, polymers and rubbers, among others.

Long-Chain Perfluorocarboxylic Acids (LC-PFCAs), their salts and related compounds – listed in Annex A with specific exemptions for certain applications.

UV-328 – an additional specific exemption has been introduced for certain uses in aircraft, which is limited to use only and shall expire by the end of 2030.
In this regard, CHEMEXCIL invites inputs from members who are manufacturing, exporting, importing and/or using any of the above chemicals, or whose products/processes may be affected by the aforesaid amendments.

The inputs received will facilitate CHEMEXCIL in assessing the implications of the amendments for the Indian chemical industry and furnishing consolidated industry inputs to the concerned authorities.
Members are requested to treat the matter as important and time-bound and submit their inputs within the stipulated timeline.
