TO ALL THE  MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL

To seek an input for revival of India's FTA’s/PTA Monitoring Committee-Regarding

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are in receipt of communication from Department of Commerce on India's free trade agreements.

As you might aware that Government of India has entered into 13 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and 6 Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs), the details of these agreements can be accessed from the DoC's website i.e. www.commerce.gov.in   (https://commerce.gov.in/international-trade/trade-agreements/)

These agreements aim to increase India's exports to the respective trading partners. However, It is observed that exports are not picking up as expected, despite the preferential access to these markets. The Department has been receiving inputs from the trade and industry about non-tariff issues in the trading partner countries leading to difficulties in exports.

To address these issues, a committee at the level of Additional Secretary has been reconstituted by the Department of Commerce to resolve such issues through inter-departmental and industry interactive approach. A meeting of the stakeholders will be held shortly, and we request your valuable inputs or issues with the respective FTA partners/ PTA partners for the purpose of discussions in the forthcoming meeting.

We request you our members to send their inputs or issues with a short brief on dg@chemexcil.in  with copy to pw@chemexcil.in  within 7-days of the receipt of this circular. These issues will be taken up and discussed during the forthcoming meeting with government officials to take it forward.

Members, please treat this urgent and share the details at the earliest.

Thanks and Regards

Raghuveer Kini
Director General
