Dear Members,   We have received communication from FT-LAC, DOC  regarding Trade Barriers and Market Access Unfairness in  LAC Region.   As you might be aware, there has been an increased thrust in enhancing our exports in the LAC region as there is immense untapped potential.   As far as performance of exports (all commodities) to the LAC region is concerned, our exports to the LAC region stood at USD 9.74 billion in 2018-19 as compared to USD 8.61 billion in the previous year recording an increase of 13.11% during 2018-19 despite the fact that some of our sectors of strength have not performed well during the year.   However, if we take LAC's global import, our share in their global imports is miniscule i.e. only 1.50% in 2018.   There might  be reasons for our share of exports in the total imports of LAC being lesser. Among those could be unfair trade practices  or Trade Barriers which are impeding our exports in the LAC region. These issues are now being reviewed at higher levels so that these can be addressed effectively.   In view of the above, it is requested to kindly bring to our notice any Trade Barriers and Market Access Unfairness in  LAC Region so that immediate intervention by DoC could be made to overcome this problem.   Therefore, members who  are exporting to  LAC region  are requested to kindly let us know the  Trade Barriers and Market Access Unfairness, if any, faced  in this region.
