Historic Conclusion of India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) – Key

Benefits for the Chemicals Sector

Dear Members,

We are pleased to inform you that on 27th January 2026, the Government of India and the European Union successfully concluded negotiations for a landmark Free Trade Agreement.

This agreement marks the end of nearly two decades of negotiations and positions India as a trusted global partner with the 27-member EU bloc. Under the agreement, the EU will eliminate tariffs on almost all industrial products, including chemicals, immediately upon the agreement's entry into force (EIF). The EU is India’s largest trading partner, and this FTA is expected to double exports to the region by 2032.

Enclosed herewith is the brief analysis of India–EU FTA: India’s Gain (Chemicals Sector) for your kind perusal and reference.

While negotiations are concluded, the FTA will now undergo for ratification in Parliament. The government expects the agreement to come into force by early 2027.

Members are encouraged to review their export strategies and product portfolios to maximize the benefits of this historic agreement.

This is for your information

Thanks and Regards
