URGENT INPUTS: INDIA–NEW ZEALAND FTA – PREPARATORY LAUNCH ACTION – PROPOSED FLAG-OFF OF FIRST EXPORT CONSIGNMENTS UNDER PREFERENTIAL

TARIFF REGIME

Dear Member,

Greetings from CHEMEXCIL!

As you are already aware, the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to enter into force in October 2026, subject to the completion of the necessary legal and procedural formalities by both countries.

The Government of India proposes to mark the entry into force of the Agreement as a major national event, showcasing the first export consignments under the preferential tariff regime across various sectors and export locations in India.

In this regard, CHEMEXCIL is compiling details of prospective export shipments to New Zealand that may be dispatched around the date of entry into force of the Agreement for coordinated flag-off and related promotional activities.

Members exporting to or intending to export to New Zealand are requested to urgently share details of prospective consignments as per the format enclosed herewith.

Members are also requested to indicate, wherever known, the current customs duty applicable to their products in New Zealand. Details of the preferential tariff/duty benefit expected under the India–New Zealand FTA may also be indicated, if available.

Please Note:

  • The proposed flag-off activities will be coordinated around the date of entry into force of the India–New Zealand FTA and will be subject to completion of the necessary formalities.
  • Members planning shipments to New Zealand around the expected date of entry into force, particularly during October 2026, are especially requested to share details of such consignments.
  • Even if a product currently enjoys zero-duty access in New Zealand, members may still share the shipment details for consideration under the proposed national launch/flag-off activities.
  • Members facing any technical barriers, documentation requirements, customs-related issues or other market access challenges in New Zealand may also highlight the same.
  • The proposed participation in the flag-off activities will be subject to the final modalities and instructions communicated by the Department of Commerce.

Members are requested to share the above inputs in the enclosed format to ad.del@chemexcil.in and amrita@chemexcil.in with a copy to ed@chemexcil.in, preferably at the earliest by 9th September 2026, to enable timely consolidation and submission of the information to the Department of Commerce.
