TBT notification issued by Republic of Korea on Cosmetics
(Preservative Ingredients)

Dear Members,
The Council has received information from M/s. APJ-SLG Law Offices, New Delhi regarding TBT notification (G/TBT/N/KOR/571) dated 10th April 2015 issued by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Republic of Korea. The regulation is with regards to cosmetics (Preservative Ingredients).
The HS Code for the products comes under chapter 33.
The Korean draft regulation bans the use of the following sterilizing preservative ingredients in cosmetics (product type, body parts):

Triclosan
-
Methylchloroisothiazolinone
-
Methylisothiazolinone.
Since India exports these products to Korea, hence, this approval requirement, if implemented, may impact the registration strategy and timeline for India’s exports of cosmetics.
Relevant members are requested to send their comments to the Council, so that the same could be submitted to M/s. APJ-SLG Law Offices, New Delhi for further action.
